Coffee Bay can be found in the Transkei, 200km north of East London along the N2, 80km down the coastal road to the Wild Coast. This is one of the best places in SA to experience traditional African culture. Tribal law is still paramount in the Transkei, with the local headmen dispensing justice through tribal courts. The Xhosa people live in rondavels (thatched mud-brick huts) without power or water supply, and follow a traditional lifestyle with coming-of-age ceremonies, witchdoctors (sangomas) and herbal muti all part of day-to-day life.
Coffee Shack offers camping, dorms, doubles and self-catering accommodation. There are excellent value-for-money meals and amazing fresh seafood dinners, as well as breakfast and lunch.
Spend your days with Lindani on one of our many day trips, or having an almost free surf lessons with a professional surf instructor, or just relaxing in the treetop hammock, before joining a spectacular sundowner or being entertained by the many local choirs. Evenings are spent rocking around the free pool table in the Babalaza Bar, or just chilling around our nightly campfire.
